Development and Test of a 500-kV Compact Marx Generator Operating at 100-Hz PRF

This article presents the electrical and mechanical design of a compact 13-stage 0.5-MV Marx generator operating at pulse repetition frequency (PRF) 100 Hz. The fast-switching process is based on spark gaps, operated under pressurized air leading to generation an output pulsed voltage with peak 0.5 MV rise time 15 ns when 300- $\Omega $ load. Corona-stabilized electrodes are installed near main gap switches improve their operational stability increase PRF. To ensure compactness, housed in cylindrical metal vessel height 92 cm outer diameter 34 cm, having total volume 74 L. A highly accurate simulation using both PSpice CST software packages was used predict impulse waveform help optimizing design. tests show good agreement between experimental data theoretical predictions.
